As a self-proclaimed candle addict I was delighted to discover that  some amazing 3-wick candles were included in Bath and Body Works’ crazy end of summer sale. When it comes to fragrances, they always get it right, so I easily fell in love with an array of delicious fresh scents! I particularly love soft, fruity scents, and there were plenty in their collection to choose from. Even the packaging was on point, varying between simple & classy to whimsical & playful. There’s just nothing better than your room being filled with the sweet smells of summer.

Top Five: Nude Lipsticks

IMG_2870_FotorIMG_2864_Fotor

I always love a pretty nude lip, as it’s easy to match and perfect to wear anytime of the year. Recently I’ve been sporting one quite regularly, so I thought I would share with everyone my top five favorite nude lipsticks. I actually surprised myself as I was narrowing down my collection, because all of them that I included except one happened to be drugstore brands. Which means this list is exceptionally affordable for anyone with a more frugal budget. The one high-end brand I included though is definitely worth the slight splurge, as it is possibly one of the most coveted shades of liquid lipstick out at the moment. The Kat Von D Lolita is sold out literally every time I walk into Sephora because it’s just that good. You definitely can’t go wrong with any of these brands though; their color payoff and staying power are what draw me to them time and time again, because I know they won’t let me down. And they all give a beautiful, shiny finish that’s perfect for any fresh and natural makeup look! 🙂

Sweet & Refreshing Homemade Lemonade (3 Flavors)

Nothing hits the spot in summertime better than a glass of ice cold homemade lemonade. And personally, I love adding extra fruits like berries and peaches to make my lemonade extra sweet and give them a fun, unique flavor twist. I’ve made this recipe several times at my house this summer and each time the drinks hardly last two days because my family just adores them, and always begs for more! It’s the kind of treat that everyone can enjoy which makes it a party favorite and earns it a gold star in my book!

The three flavors: classic strawberry, blueberry & peach, and raspberry mint.

What You Need (Makes 6-8 servings):

~16 lemons at room temperature

2 cups sugar

2/3 cups sugar, divided

1/2 cup sugar

1 peach- ripe

1 pint blueberries

1 pint raspberries

1 cup strawberries

Handful of fresh mint leaves

1 pitcher

3 mason jars

Extra fruit for garnish (optional)

Straws

Directions:

Plain lemonade base

Start by mixing 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water in a saucepan, bringing to a boil. This will be the syrup for your plain lemonade. Continue boiling until all sugar has dissolved, then set aside.

Roll each lemon between your hands, using enough pressure to soften it (this will make them easier to squeeze). Then cut each lemon in half and squeeze into a measuring cup until you have 2 cups of lemon juice. If you notice that a few seeds fell into the cup, be sure to strain them out before pouring the juice in the pitcher.

Next, add the syrup into your pitcher of lemon juice and stir thoroughly. Fill the remainder of your pitcher with cold water and ice.

Strawberry syrup:

Remove tops from strawberries and cut into fourths. Put into a bowl, add 1/3 cup sugar, and stir. Let sit for ~45 minutes, or until you can see the strawberry juice forming at the bottom. Once enough liquid has formed, strain the juice into a small bowl and toss away the solid fruits.

Raspberry mint syrup:

Mash 1 pint of raspberries together in a bowl with 1/3 cup sugar. Add in a handful of mint leaves, being sure to mix them in well without smashing them up. Let stand for ~20 minutes, then strain juice into a small bowl and toss away any solids.

Blueberry peach syrup:

Chop the peach into bite sized pieces (it is okay to leave the skin on) and put into a small saucepan. Add 1 pint of blueberries and 1/2 cup sugar and stir. Optional: you can also add a splash of water or lemon juice to the mixture to help it mix better. Put the saucepan on the stove and simmer on low heat until the mixture has thickened (about 20 minutes). Then strain the juice into a small bowl and once again toss away any solids.

Once your syrups are finished, take your mason jars and fill them with ice. Then pour the plain lemonade into each jar. Next, add one spoonful of the flavored syrup into your mason jar and stir. Taste and feel free to add more if needed! Garnish the drinks with a lemon slice on top and the extra fruit that corresponds to your flavor. Then finish them off with a cute straw and enjoy!

Of course, if you don’t want to individualize the drinks, you can just as easily pour one entire fruit syrup mixture into the pitcher and make a big batch of your favorite flavor! That’s what makes this recipe so fun, there are so many ways you can adapt it and personalize it that it makes it perfect for parties and gathering as well as simple days spent lounging at home.

Whichever way you choose to serve it, everyone is sure to declare it as the best lemonade they’ve ever had!

New Hair

IMG_2705_FotorIMG_2722_FotorIMG_2671_FotorIMG_2716_FotorIMG_2682_Fotor

I’ve been switching up my hair a lot recently, taking it from bright blonde to shiny brunette in the matter of months. Right before my trip overseas I dyed it even darker brown then didn’t touch it the entire time I was gone, so when I finally got settled back in at home it was a top priority to have it done again. My ends were super dead from months without a trim, so I had to cut off about three inches (which is about 2 1/2 more than I would’ve liked!) but it feels so healthy now I’m not complaining! I decided to mix things up again with my color, and after contemplating this look for ages now, I finally took a chance and gave balayage a shot. It’s a very similar style to ombre, the main differences are mostly in the technique of the highlight, but it gives you gorgeous multi-dimensional color. I’m absolutely in love with how lively and bright my hair looks now; plus I get to have the best of both worlds and be both blonde and brunette ;).

I love how something as simple as a new hair do can be so transformative to your esteem. I feel like a new woman every time I get my hair done, and that’s a lovely feeling. Perhaps if you’re in an end-of-summer slump all you need is a little cut and color to add the spring back in your step. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous (or you just can’t make up your mind on one color), ask your stylist about trying some balayage highlights!

Stationery Goodies

As a firm believer that having a pleasing, aesthetic workspace helps promote productivity, cute stationery and office supplies are some of my favorite things to go shopping for. And with school just around the corner I felt that now was the perfect time to stock up on some new goods. All of these I picked up from stores I discovered in Australia, namely Typo and Kikki K, and their online sites do provide shipping to most countries so even if there’s not a store nearby you can still enjoy their adorable new collections. I love these stores especially because they not only offer standard pencil and paper supplies, but they also have decor pieces such as the hang & peg cards I picked up and vision board cards. I am so excited to get to school and put my desk together with all my new bits and pieces! And if you’d like to see more, check out the Stationery Haul I uploaded on my main YouTube channel :).
