It seems that the harshest winter weather always comes right after Christmas, and although in Arizona I can’t exactly say we have much of a “winter”, it does get incredibly dry here (even more than usual) during the colder months, which always brings up skincare concerns. Usually during these months my daily lotion routine isn’t strong enough to battle the lack of moisture that my skin deals with, so I have to try other methods to keep it hydrated and healthy.
So today I wanted to share with you some of my tips and tricks to help beat the winter blues and keep your skin looking as fresh and soft as it does the rest of the year.
- Start dry brushing. This was a concept I was a little new to but after hearing several celebrities swear by the technique I decided it was worth giving a try. Before you get in the shower take the brush over your whole body in long strokes, starting from the bottom and working to the top. The bristles act as an exfoliator to brush away dead cells and reveal the healthy skin that’s underneath.
- Use a body scrub. Speaking of exfoliating, another great product to start using is a body scrub. Using this a few times a week in the shower will also help to make sure all the dry, dead skin is being regularly scrubbed away so that the new, healthy skin has a chance to glow.
- Enjoy a bath melt. If you’ve never tried one of Lush’s bath melts now would be a great time to give them a try. More concentrated than their bath bombs, bath melts are packed full of moisturizing butters and essential oils and after one bath you can definitely feel the difference in how soft and smooth your skin feels.
- Invest in a strong moisturizer. If you have really dry skin during the winter, then most of the time a simple lotion isn’t going to cut it. Now’s the time to try something stronger, like a body butter or even coconut oil, both of which have extremely hydrating effects.
