When summertime hit, I started noticing that my staple foundation, the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation, wasn’t exactly performing its best. It has a very thick, creamy consistency and normally I like it, however, in the extreme heat it started to really feel weighed down and leave my face feeling sticky with my makeup looking caked on instead of smooth and subtle. This might just be because I already have naturally oily skin, so that paired with the summer sun and a thick foundation was probably a bad idea from the start, but regardless, it was time to start looking for an alternative option.
So considering my very sensitive skin issue, I was very pleased to have come across the Philosophy line. They use gentle ingredients in all their products so they won’t irritate the skin, and include positive, uplifting messages on their packaging as well so that you not only look good, but feel good too. Their Hope in a Jar foundation is intended to be a hydrating foundation (“hydrating” is generally a word I avoid with my oily skin, however, this one has a great finish that makes your skin look fresh and healthy and not at all shiny). It advertises to be light-medium coverage, and I’ve found that I get closer to medium coverage, as I feel it effectively covers my redness on my face and evens out my skin tone tremendously. I love that it has a pump as well, I feel that it dispenses a great amount to start with that will pretty much cover my whole face, and I can easily build it up from there. And not to mention, I think it also smells really good too!
From what I’ve used so far I’m definitely satisfied with the product and would buy it again for the summer time. In the winter I’ll probably go back to my Tarte cream foundation but for now I’m enjoying how light and refreshing this one feels on my skin. And their Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas powder foundation is next on my list of products to try after a quick demo in the store that made my skin look extra great.
