I think everyone at some point has sat down and made a bucket list for themselves. For me, that point was this past summer when I realized that I’m 19 years young and healthy and able and have plenty of life ahead of me to accomplish pretty much anything I set my mind to.
All of the things I wrote down were thoughts that at one point or another had crossed through my mind; a moment where I said: “Wow, I would love to do that!” or “Someday I have to go there!” And of those thoughts, the ones that were always in the back of my mind, the ones that grew to the point where I knew I had no choice but to fulfill it or I would forever spend the rest of my life wishing I had, those are the ones that made it onto the list. To write them down and visibly see all of my aspirations scrawled out on the page in front of me somehow made them all more real; as if by acknowledging that they’re all there made it seem more promising to complete them all.
Recently, because of personal circumstances, I’ve felt very compelled to take advantage of the time I am given right now. To not put things off, but instead to do them right this very instant. Especially in today’s world, it seems that too often we let money or time or fear stand in the way of our dreams. That our “realistic” view of life makes our biggest dreams seem unattainable, and that we as people appear unreasonable for even thinking that they are possible in the first place. The thing is, life will always be busy and stressful and hectic and full of problems and excuses that stand in the way of us doing what we really want to. So if you put something off today, the odds are something else will come up tomorrow, or the next day, and so on. And before you know it you’ll have missed out on a great opportunity. But realistically, there is never a better time than right now to start doing something that you love! Because at the end of your life, you’ll only regret the things you didn’t do, not the things you did. So I encourage everyone to get out of their comfort zone this week, to try something new that both excites and terrifies you! Start with something little; order something new at your favorite restaurant. Then work your way up to bigger things, like overcoming your fear of heights and going on your very first rollercoaster!
Choose today to start taking chances, to start living more fully, to cross something off your bucket list.
And so, I present to you all my very own bucket list, proudly announcing that my goal to create a blog can officially be marked off!
